First Sileo Beta for iOS 11 Electra Jailbreak Released

More than five months after initially teasing it, the team behind Sileo — Electra — has released the first beta of the package manager which is aimed at replacing Cydia. Despite months of testing, this is the first beta release of Sileo and so it is bound to have some bugs and stability issues.

The preview version of Sileo only supports the latest version of Electra. Unc0ver jailbreak is not supported right now, though many users report that Sileo is working fine for them. If you have used Electra to jailbreak your iPhone or iPad, you can download Sileo from the default Electra repo.

Another important thing to note here is that payments are only supported on the Dynastic Repo, though the Chariz repo team is working on adding support for payments.

As mentioned, this is still the first beta release of Sileo and it is full of bugs. Many users over on Reddit are complaining about the package manager crashing while installing/uninstalling new tweaks so if you value your stable jailbreak, you should avoid trying Sileo for now.

Depending on how quickly the Electra team updates Sileo to squash all the reported bugs and add new features to it, there’s a possibility of Sileo replacing Cydia and becoming the package manager for jailbroken iOS devices. It could become the App Store for jailbreak tweaks with a modern and easy to navigate UI — something which is sorely needed. This is important since jailbroken iPhone and iPad users have to currently rely on Cydia which has not received any meaningful updates in quite a few years now.

Class Action Lawsuit Against Apple Over Spectre and Meltdown Vulnerabilities Gets Dismissed

The hardware vulnerabilities Spectre and Meltdown were big deals leading into 2018, but it looks like Apple will avoid major legal action in regard to a class action lawsuit filed against the company. If you’ll recall, a class action lawsuit was filed against Apple in January of 2018 , with the complaint at the time saying, “Apple knew about the Spectre and Meltdown security defects as early as June of last year, and, as such, did not inform its customer base in a meaningful timeframe. In addition to that, the complaint states that Apple cannot implement a fix for Spectre and/or Meltdown without heavily impacting the performance of those processors”. Carriers Say They Will Close Access to Customer Geo-Location Data to Third-Parties

One of the pieces of the giant data puzzle that carriers are able to routinely obtain from a smartphone on its network is geo-location, but unfortunately for customers that data hasn’t been handled all that well. In a report from The Verge , two of the three wireless carriers that were specifically named in a recent in-depth report regarding the misuse of customer geo-location data have responded in a hopefully meaningful way, indicating that change is (finally) coming. As a quick recap, it was recently reported this week by Motherboard that all it took was paying $300 to a bounty hunter and supplying a phone number to track down a device, and its owner, to a specific location.
